Mercantile Investment Trust (LON: MRC) is a British investment trust focused on investments in smaller and medium companies in the UK. A constituent of the FTSE 250 Index on the London stock exchange is based out of London. Established in December 1884 as The Mercantile Investment & General Trust Company Limited with an issued capital of £500,000, the company merged with three other investment trusts in 1960 under a scheme of arrangement and changed its name to The Mercantile Investment Trust Limited. About two decades later in 1982, the company became The Fleming Mercantile Investment Trust plc. The company adopted its present name, The Mercantile Investment Trust plc, in April 2008.
