Foresight Solar Fund Ltd is a UK-based close ended investment trust that invests in diversified portfolio of ground-based solar PV assets located in UK, Spain, and Australia. The company got listed in London Stock Exchange in October 2013 as LON: FSFL, which was the largest dedicated listed solar investment trust at that time. It is also a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. At present, it is the largest UK-Listed investment trust with investment focus on solar energy companies by installed capacity and market capitalisation.
The company’s investment motive is to invest in geographically diverse portfolio of assets to provide high value, sustainable and progressive quarterly dividends and preserve and enhance capital value by reinvesting excess cash flow not required for the payment of dividends. It fulfills its investment objectives by acquiring large-scale solar power plants and continuously seeks for opportunities in the UK market and outside markets that can create value of the investors and are under the investment mandate and has ambition to be the leading dedicated solar energy listed investment trust in the UK. The group operates three major portfolios: UK Portfolio, Australian Portfolio and Spanish Portfolio, which comprises of approx 59 assets with the Net peak capacity of 1.02GW.
The company is managed by Foresight Group, which is the leading listed infrastructure, retail and private equity investment manager, and was founded in 1984. It has offices in London, Sydney, Rome, Madrid and Luxembourg and the company’s asset manager is Foresight Group LLP, which is authorised and regulated by Financial Conduct Authority that is engaged in managing the day-to-day operating assets, contracts, asset performance monitoring and portfolio optimisation. It is a leading asset manager since past 6 years, managing more than 180 energy infrastructure projects that generate 1.9GW of renewable energy and its range of projects include solar battery storage, reverse power, waste-to-energy, and wind investments.
The company does not have any direct employees and outsources all its operations and makes its investments through intermediate holding companies and Special Purpose Vehicles. The company can invest up to 10% of its GAV in utility scale battery storage systems, investments in assets, which are, when acquired, still under construction will be limited up to 25% of GAV of the company and its subsidiaries and all the investments outside the UK should be limited to 25% of GAV of the company and its subsidiaries that are calculated at the time of investments.
