The BD segment deals with the distribution of materials, such as roofing, wall facings, mortars, and ductile cast iron pipe. The construction sector provides both interior and exterior solutions, like insulation for interiors and mortars, pipes for exteriors. The IM segment deals with products like flat glass and high-performance materials.
The company offers solutions like self-cleaning windows and photovoltaic glass, water supply systems with industrial applications. Some of its specialised products are used in automobile and transportation, aeronautical & aerospace sectors, security & protection, health & biomedical, industrial equipment, food & beverages, household appliances and others. The company was established in 1665 and they served as the royal glassmakers to Louis XIV. The company was initially named Dunoyer and had a monopoly in the European mirror market. Then in 1692, the factory was built in the village of Saint-Gobain, where it got its present name. In the 19th Century, the company developed a huge chemical business that led development of glass works outside France.
After the World War II, the company transformed itself through a merger with Pont-a-Mousson. The company during this period had revolutionised the production of empty glass bottles in Europe. In 1996, the company diversified into distribution of building material. By 2015, the company established itself as a global group.
