Oil & GasTC Energy Corporation is a North American gas transmission and power generation company based in Canada. Its pipeline reportedly covers about 58,000 miles and transports around one-fourth of the total natural gas in North America.
The company was originally founded to develop the TransCanada pipeline in 1951. TC Energy Corporation was known as TransCanada until 2019.
Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, the energy infrastructure company operates pipelines, power-generation plants and storage facilities in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The energy company engages in the production and development of natural gas pipelines, liquids pipeline and energy transmission.
TC Energy Corporation has around 66 subsidiaries and 326 branches. It operates through three segments, which are:
Natural Gas: The system includes 57,900 miles network of natural gas pipelines, which reportedly supplies nearly 25 per cent of natural gas consumed on a daily basis across North America. The extensive network is operated through:
• NGTL System
• Canadian Mainline
• Columbia Gas
• Columbia Gulf
• ANR Pipeline System
• Mexico Pipeline Network
Oil and Liquids: The company’s liquid pipeline network covers more than 3,000 miles connecting Alberta crude oil suppliers with refining markets in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois and US Gulf Coast. The Keystone Pipeline system transports nearly 20 per cent of Western Canadian crude oil to key markets.
Power and Storage: The diversified portfolio includes energy infrastructure assets, including investments in seven power generation facilities. The units reportedly have a combined capacity of around 4,200 megawatts (MW). The company claims that nearly 75 per cent of the power generated is clean and emission-free. In addition, TC Energy develops and operates high-efficiency, natural gas-fired generating stations. The assets broadly includes:
• Western Power: Owns and operates power generating assets based in Alberta and Arizona.
• Eastern Power: With a power generation capacity of 900 megawatts, the company owns assets in Eastern Canada.
• Bruce Power: TC Energy has nearly 48.4 per cent interest in the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario, comprising eight nuclear power plants and is said to be among the world’s largest nuclear power facility.
