Golden Star Resources Ltd, incorporated in 1992, is a gold mining company with focus on mineral properties in West Africa.

It owns and operates a large scale underground non-refractory mine, Wassa Gold Mine, in Ghana.

In 1999, Golden Star acquired the Bogoso concessions and its infrastructure and continued exploration drilling operations and oxide ore mining at the facility.

Bogoso Refractory Processing Plant was commissioned in July 2007, the company says.

As a result of the foreclosure of Glencar Mining assets, Golden Star acquired Wassa Gold mine in 2003. In 2007, the construction of an 80-kilometer dedicated haul road culminated, which connects Hwini-Butre to the Wassa mine. In addition, the mining operations at the Benso deposit completed in 2009, followed by commencement of first stage operations at the Adiokrom deposit.

The company also undertook an open-pit mining operation at Father Brown deposit.

In 2013, the gold-focused miner commenced development of a single large pit mine, Wassa Main Pit, from multiple pits.

In 2014, the company released its preliminary economic assessment report regarding the Prestea Underground development. In addition to this, the mining operations commenced at Prestea in 2017.

On January 1, 2017, Golden Star Resources Ltd declared commercial production at the Wassa underground facility.

The company is engaged in exploration project at its Wassa property, wherein surface drilling at south extensions of Wassa orebody has been completed.
