Rogers Communications Inc is a technology and media company and one of the biggest wireless service provider in Canada.

The company primarily provides high-speed broadband internet access, digital television, wireless communications services and owns a portfolio of media assets.

In March 2021, Rogers announced its plans to purchase peer Shaw Communications in a C$ 26 billion merger, wherein it will reportedly acquire all its issued and outstanding shares for a price of C$ 40.50 per piece. The transaction value is said to be inclusive of Shaw Communications’ debt of approximately C$ 6 billion.

This merger is likely to change Canada’s telecom sector at large.

In the light of the mega-merger, the combined company will look to invest C$ 2.5 billion to develop the 5G network in Western Canada and create new jobs.

Rogers operates through three segments:

Wireless

The company provides pre-paid and post-paid wireless services under different brands, including Fido™, Rogers™, and chatr™.

Cable
The cable telecommunication principal activities include smart home monitoring solutions, internet, WiFi services, telephony, online viewing, etc., across Canada, including New Brunswick, Ontario, and Newfoundland.

Media
The wireless services provider owns media properties, including television broadcasting, radio broadcasting, sports media and entertainment, specialty channels, etc.

Rogers also provides a multi-platform for shopping and digital media services.

It reportedly has 10 million wireless subscribers across Canada.

In addition, it provides TV cable services to over 1.5 million customers through its subsidiary Rogers Cable.
