Clean lithium producer Lake Resources NL (ASX:LKE; OTC:LLKKF) focuses on producing high-purity lithium from its leading Kachi Lithium Brine Project and envisions emerging as a significant and valuable supplier of high-purity lithium.
LKE’s Kachi project and several other projects are located within the Lithium Triangle in Argentina, which is a globally recognised prime location that produces around 40% of the world’s lithium at minimum cost. The company has a large leaseholding of 2,200km as on 1 June 2021 with an expandable resource (4.4 Mt LCE) of which only 20% is used for 25 years production at 25,500tpa.
Lake’s other projects are located near some of the top lithium developers of the world and include the following:
- Olaroz brine project
- Cauchari brine project
- Paso brine project
Lake Resources utilizes direct extraction technology to produce sustainable, high-purity lithium from its Kachi Project. This direct extraction method provides a solution for two rising demands of electric vehicle batteries, I,e, produces high purity battery materials to avoid performance issues, and are sustainable and responsibly sourced.
LKE had partnered with Lilac Solutions Inc and built an efficient and disruptive clean technology to generate high purity lithium, which is also sustainable. The economic technology of Lilac is supported by Bill Gates-led Breakthrough Energy Fund and MIT’s The Engine Fund.
Testing of the lithium brine samples from the Kachi project have shown 99.97% purity lithium carbonate samples that were never earlier generated at scale in an economical way for a premium price.
Moreover, on the basis of preliminary testing by Novonix, positive test results have indicated that LKE’s high-purity lithium carbonate works well in NMC622-based lithium-ion battery test cells.
Based on the quality of the lithium carbonate and the level and kind of impurities, LKE is hopeful that its lithium product is prospective to attaining premium pricing.
In light of the strong market demand for lithium, LKE is looking to expand its lithium projects and intends to undertake various studies across these projects.
