Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM) is an Australia-based mining company that is involved with the exploration, development, mining and sale of gold and gold-copper concentrates. It is one of the largest gold mining companies in Australia that has marked its footprints in Indonesia as well. Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM) was initially started by Newmont Mining Corporation as a subsidiary in the year 1966. Soon in 1980, the company became Newmont Holdings Pty Ltd. In 1990, the company acquired 100 shares of Australmin Holdings Ltd and was renamed as Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM). The primary gold and copper producing mine of Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM) in Australia is the Cadia East Ridgeway. Another significant gold mine owned by Newcrest is the Telfer Mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Cadia East Ridgeway: Cadia East Ridgeway is a large underground gold and copper mine which is owned and operated by Newcrest. The first year of full operations produced 377,539 ounces of gold in this mine. The Telfer Mine: The Telfer Mine is a located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is a large, open-cut as well as an underground gold mine owned and operated by Newcrest. This mine is capable of being the largest gold mine in Australia, with the potential to generate 800,000 ounces of gold in a year. Apart from the above-mentioned ones, Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM) also owns and operates two gold mines in Papua New Guinea, Lihir and Hidden Valley and one each in Ivory Coast and Indonesia.
