 Wall Street Edges Higher in Wednesday’s Trading Session

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 47.22 points or 1.78% higher at 2,706.63, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index surged by 380.59 points or 1.68% higher at 23,034.45, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 8,006.89, up by 119.63 points or 1.52% against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 11:20 AM ET).

US News: The Wall Street traded higher in Wednesday’s trading session, with all major US indices were in the bright spot. According to the latest forecast published by US Energy Information Administration, the US oil production to diminish by 4% to 11.8 million barrels per day in 2020. Furthermore, the production is projected to decline by another 6% in 2021. Among the stocks, Tesla plunged over 4% post releasing the rising cost warning (up to 925 million pounds). Now, Tesla has stated that it will slash salaries by 30% and furlough its US workforce due to production shutdown. Bio-Rad Laboratories surged over 3.8% post announcing their blood test to detect Covid-19. Similarly, FedEx and United Parcel Service gained by around 4.49% and 2.35% respectively, after the Amazon’s announcement to suspend its competing delivery service, Amazon Shipping.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Nordstrom Inc, Kohls Corp, and Noble Energy Inc shares increased by 7.93%, 7.41% and 7.37% respectively.

Non Performers*: Carrier Global Corp, Mohawk Industries Inc and Kroger Co shares decreased by 6.43%, 3.09% and 3.04% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Moleculin Biotech Inc, Moxian Inc, and New York Mortgage Trust Inc shares expanded by 175.46%, 58.57% and 39.55% respectively.

Worst Performers*: American Virtual Cloud Technologies Inc, Youngevity International Inc and Teligent Inc (NEW JERSEY) shares plunged by 36.19%, 24.07% and 17.40% respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Energy (+2.62%), Technology (+0.50%), and Basic Materials (+0.48%).

Top Non-Performer Sectors*: Telecommunications Services (-0.70%), Consumer Non-Cyclicals (-0.64%) and Healthcare (-0.06%).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Boeing Co, Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Chevron Corp are the top gainers and increased by 3.97%, 2.61% and 2.32%, respectively.

Non Performers*: Walt Disney Co, Walgreens Alliance Inc and Intel Corp shares decreased by 2.24%, 1.38% and 0.72% respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 26.72 points or 0.47% lower at 5,677.73, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 293.87 points or 1.89% higher at 15,862.83, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 1.18 points or 0.04% lower at 3,140.10 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended up by 0.06 points or 0.02 per cent at 326.67. Among other major European indices, DAX index closed the session at 10,332.89, down by 23.81 points or 0.23%; CAC 40 index increased by 4.49 points or 0.10% and ended the trading session at 4,442.75.

European News: London and European stocks dipped after two-day rally as an increasing number of deaths soaked the hopes that the outbreak of Covid-19 was fading. Meanwhile, insurers took a toll over dividend suspension. Subsequently, stock of Aviva, Direct Line and RSA Insurance dropped between 2% to 8%. Both British and EU regulators have restrained insurers and reinsurers to pay out any dividend or bonus payment. In contrast, fashion retailer, ASOS Plc surged by around 26%, followed by raising of 247 million pounds to combat disruption caused by the pandemic. Likewise, Novacyt soared around 22% as it has got approval for Covid-19 diagnostic test.

London Stock Exchange

Top Performers*: RESTAURANT GROUP PLC (RTN), ON THE BEACH GROUP PLC (OTB) and RANK GROUP PLC (RNK) are top movers and rose by 28.66%, 28.00% and 27.67%, respectively.

Worst Performers*: ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA GLOBAL HOLDING (AML), PHAROS ENERGY PLC (PHAR) and DIRECT LINE INSURANCE GROUP PLC (DLG) plunged by 12.27%, 11.34% and 10.36%, respectively.

Best Gainers*: WHITBREAD PLC (WTB), EVRAZ PL (EVR) and AVEVA GROUP PLC (AVV) expanded by 7.65%, 3.58% and 3.52%, respectively.

Non Performers*: AVIVA PLC (AV.), FRESNILLO PLC (FRES) and LEGAL & GENERAL GROUP PLC (LGEN) plunged by 6.45%, 5.82% and 5.60%, respectively.

Shares traded with high-level volume*: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC; (VOD) VODAFONE GROUP PLC.

Top Sectors traded in the positive zone*: Utilities (+1.35%), Technology (+0.82%) and Consumer Cyclicals (+0.64%).

Top Sectors traded in the negative zone*: Telecommunications Services (-3.08%), Energy (-2.84%), and Basic Materials (-2.67%).

Oil Prices*: WTI crude oil future price was nudging at $23.95 per barrel, and Brent crude oil future price was trading at $31.93 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were hovering at 1.2408 and 0.8754, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was tilting at 0.741%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.379%, respectively.
