On Tuesday, October 19, the TSX Composite Index breached the 21,000-point mark. The index has been on a green streak since October 5. It first broke its all-time high Friday, October 15, and has been gaining ever since.
Technology stocks have been rallying since Monday, and Tuesday saw Blackberry’s stock (TSX:BB) with a 13.29 per cent gain. Technology was up over one per cent and the healthcare sector, which had been lagging recently, saw a 6.62 per cent rise. Energy, financials and industrials were in the green and base metals was down 0.67 per cent.
Gaining 101.62 points the index closed at 21,086.99 points, up 0.48 per cent.

Volume active
The most traded stock was Suncor Energy Inc with about 10.74 million shares exchanging hands. It was followed by Enbridge Inc where 10.03 million shares exchanged hands, and Cenovus Energy Inc with about 6.82 million shares exchanging hands.

Wall Street update
The technology rally stretched south of the border as Wall Street made some gains. The main indices began the day by making gains and generally held on to them till market close.
The Dow rose 198.70 points or 0.56 per cent to 35,457.31 points, the S&P 500 gained 33.17 points or 0.74 per cent up to 4,519.63, and the Nasdaq was up 107.28 points or 0.71 per cent to 15,129.09 points.
Commodity update
Gold gained 0.27 per cent and traded at US$ 1,770.50. Brent oil rose 0.89 per cent to US$ 85.08/bbl, while crude oil gained 0.63 per cent to US$ 82.96/bbl.
Currency news
The loonie gained against the US dollar on October 19, while USD/CAD ended in the red at 1.2362, down 0.10 per cent.
The US Dollar Index was worse off against the basket of major currencies Tuesday and ended at 93.81, down 0.14 per cent.
Money market
Tuesday’s trade saw the US 10-year bond yield grow 3.1 per cent and end at 1.641.
The Canada 10-year bond yield grew 2.39 per cent on October 12 and ended at 1.630.
