Emmerson PLC {LSE:EML} has provided an update on its ongoing discussions with Moroccan authorities concerning the environmental permit for its Khemisset (KMP) fertiliser project. CEO Graham Clarke indicated that the approval process is nearing its conclusion, expressing optimism about a favorable outcome within the current quarter.

The focus of discussions has been to address technical issues that were previously highlighted. Emmerson is committed to implementing optimizations that ensure the Khemisset project aligns with environmental standards. Clarke emphasized the importance of water management in Morocco, particularly in light of recent drought conditions. The project plans to utilize recycled water and adopt dry stack tailings, demonstrating the company's dedication to robust environmental and social credentials.

In a recent management change, CFO Jim Wynn has resigned, with a successor expected to be appointed after the environmental permit decision is finalized.

For the half-year period ending June 2024, Emmerson reported a loss of US$1.6 million, with current cash reserves totaling US$1.7 million. The company remains focused on advancing its Khemisset project while ensuring that all regulatory and environmental considerations are thoroughly addressed.
