Boutique small-cap brokerage VSA Capital has reported a return to profitability for the half-year ending September 30, 2024, buoyed by improving market conditions and an expanded pipeline of transactions. The company posted a pre-tax profit of £258,000, marking a significant turnaround from the £1.8 million loss recorded in the previous period.

Revenues for the six months increased to £1.7 million, a sharp rise from £1.05 million year-on-year, underscoring the brokerage’s ability to navigate tough equity capital markets and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

Growing Transaction Pipeline and Client Portfolio

Mark Steeves, chairman of the mining-specialist brokerage, expressed optimism about the firm’s trajectory. “Market conditions are improving. We have an increased portfolio of client companies and a good pipeline of transactions as we enter 2025,” he said.

Chief executive Andrew Monk highlighted that the firm’s transaction pipeline had grown significantly in the past month, driven by heightened activity in its target sectors. However, he acknowledged that equity capital markets remain “incredibly tough,” pointing to the challenges many firms in the small-cap space continue to face.

Positioned for Growth in 2025

Despite ongoing market challenges, VSA Capital appears well-positioned to build on its recent success. The firm’s expanded client portfolio and robust pipeline of deals provide a strong foundation for sustained performance in the upcoming year.

As market conditions improve, the firm’s strategic focus on high-potential sectors such as mining and resources offers additional avenues for growth. The brokerage remains cautiously optimistic about the prospects for equity capital markets in 2025, with expectations for further recovery and momentum.

This resurgence in profitability and activity underscores VSA Capital’s resilience and ability to adapt to challenging market environments, signaling a promising future for the boutique brokerage.
