Technology Minerals PLC (LSE:TM1) is pioneering the development of the UK’s first listed, sustainable circular economy for battery metals. The company is leveraging advanced technology to recycle, recover, and re-use battery components, aiming to support a renewable energy future.

Focusing on the growing global demand for battery metals, Technology Minerals is working to address the ecological challenge of spent lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. The company’s strategy involves extracting raw materials necessary for Li-ion batteries while also recycling used batteries to be repurposed by battery manufacturers. This approach aligns with the increasing need for sustainable practices in the electrification sector.

In a recent update, Technology Minerals announced the initiation of a cost reduction program aimed at improving operational efficiency. The company is implementing measures to lower workforce numbers and reduce head office expenses, as well as conducting ongoing reviews of its service providers. This decision follows a comprehensive review of the company’s key assets, including its 48.35% stake in Recyclus Group Ltd, a UK-based firm specializing in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries.

As part of this restructuring, Technology Minerals has reduced the size of its board, with Philip Beard stepping down from his role as independent non-executive director. The company will continue to assess and adjust the composition of its board committees to optimize governance and operations.

In addition to these organizational changes, the company has made strides in battery recycling technology. Scientific Director Anwar Sattar recently discussed the company’s progress with Proactive, highlighting a £50,000 grant from the Clean Futures Accelerator Program. This grant, matched by the company, will support the development of a novel process for recycling lithium thionyl chloride batteries—a type of battery that is currently not recycled in Europe.

These advancements underscore Technology Minerals’ commitment to creating a sustainable and efficient battery recycling system, reinforcing its role in the transition to a greener energy future.
