Endeavour Mining (LSE:EDV), a leading FTSE 100 gold producer, announced the appointment of Sonia Scarselli as its new executive vice-president of exploration, effective from December. Scarselli joins from BHP, where she most recently served as vice-president of exploration and headed the BHP Xplor programme.
With over a decade of experience at BHP, Scarselli has held various senior leadership roles, including vice-president of exploration and appraisals, head of Algeria, and exploration manager for Trinidad and Tobago. Her career began at ExxonMobil UK before transitioning to BHP in 2012. Scarselli will succeed Jono Lawrence, who will leave Endeavour at the end of the year following a transition period.
Scarselli will lead Endeavour's ambitious exploration programme, which aims to discover 12 to 17 million ounces of measured and indicated resources by 2025. The company has already identified 10 million ounces of such resources since 2021, achieving a discovery cost of less than $25 per ounce.
Scarselli holds a master’s degree in geological science from Università degli studi di Perugia, a PhD in geology from ETH Zurich, and an MBA from the London Business School. She also serves as an advisor to Deep Energy Capital, CEOs Against Cancer Chapter, and the AAPG Advisory Council.
Endeavour highlighted that, with her appointment, its executive committee would comprise 10 members, with 30% female representation, marking a step towards its commitment to diversity in leadership.
