Premier African Minerals Limited (LSE:PREM) has shared a significant update regarding its Zulu Lithium and Tantalum Project (Zulu). As previously reported on 1 August 2024, Enprotec, the supplier of the flotation plant, has concluded that no fundamental changes to the current plant equipment are necessary to achieve the desired recoveries and grade. Enprotec has been conducting extensive laboratory tests to refine the plant’s core processes, including reagent dosing, agitation speeds, flow rates, slurry densities, cell residence times, and alternative water sources in the flotation section. These tests are pivotal for further optimization of the flotation circuit.
Enprotec is expected to complete all laboratory testing by the end of this week. Following this, the timeline for restarting operations will be established.
Financial Review and Cost Projections
In parallel, Premier has undertaken a comprehensive financial review of the potential operating costs at Zulu. The review includes consideration of the impact of an enlarged flotation plant to accommodate surplus capacity at the front end. Preliminary internal estimates, which have yet to be independently verified, suggest that an expanded flotation plant could target a mine gate production cost of approximately US$500 per ton for spodumene concentrate.
Enprotec's Role and Future Support
Enprotec has reviewed and approved this update regarding the flotation plant. As a Multi-disciplinary Engineering Applications Group, Enprotec provides end-to-end solutions to the mining and mineral processing industry, focusing on optimal ore extraction and minimizing environmental risks. Originally engaged under the direction of Stark, Enprotec will continue to support the Zulu project as requested by the plant’s engineering team. This ongoing support aims to optimize and improve the flotation plant designed by Stark.
