Highlights:

  • Drilling Targets Mbe South’s Mineralised Corridor: A 6,590-meter program across 24 holes aims to test structural orientation at depth.
  • Trenching Results Drive Progress: A 500-meter mineralised zone identified through trenching has set the stage for drilling.
  • Future Exploration Potential: MB01-N in the northern prospect could be the next focus for Oriole Resources.

Oriole Resources PLC (LSE:ORR) has embarked on its inaugural drilling program at the Mbe South Prospect in Cameroon, marking a pivotal step in the company’s exploration efforts in the region. Chief Executive Martin Rosser, speaking from Yaoundé, outlined the comprehensive drilling strategy, which comprises 6,590 meters across 24 planned holes. This program aims to test the structural orientation of a promising mineralised zone identified during earlier trenching work.

Focus on Mbe South’s Mineralised Zone

The decision to initiate drilling follows encouraging trenching results that highlighted a 500-meter-long mineralised corridor at Mbe South. According to Rosser, the first phase of drilling will employ scissor holes, a technique designed to provide greater clarity on the geological structures present at depth. This will allow Oriole to refine its understanding of the deposit and lay the groundwork for potential resource estimation.

“Mbe South represents an exciting milestone in our exploration journey,” Rosser stated, emphasizing the strategic significance of this maiden drilling program. The initial focus remains firmly on Mbe South, but the CEO hinted at the potential for future activity in the northern MB01-N prospect, which could unlock additional opportunities.

Strategic Approach to Exploration

The trenching work at Mbe South has been instrumental in shaping Oriole’s exploration strategy. By identifying a mineralised corridor, the company has been able to target its drilling program effectively. This methodical approach demonstrates Oriole’s commitment to leveraging robust geological data to guide its resource development activities.

Looking ahead, Oriole has expressed optimism about the potential for further discoveries as drilling progresses. The current campaign not only serves to test the viability of the Mbe South Prospect but also positions the company to expand its exploration footprint in Cameroon. The northern MB01-N prospect is seen as a promising area for future exploration, offering a potential pipeline of opportunities.

Path Forward for Oriole Resources

As drilling continues, Oriole Resources aims to unlock the full potential of Mbe South while laying the foundation for a broader exploration strategy in Cameroon. The results from this program will provide valuable insights into the region’s geological profile, guiding the company’s next steps and potentially shaping the future of its operations in West Africa.
