Iofina PLC (LSE:LOF) has successfully commissioned its latest IOsorb plant, IO#10, in Oklahoma, marking a significant achievement in the company’s expansion within the iodine production industry. The commissioning of this new facility represents a major step in the company's broader strategy to enhance its production capacity and maintain its leadership position in the iodine market.
The IO#10 plant has completed its hydro-testing phase, and brine water is now circulating through the system, preparing it for iodine extraction. Over the next several days, the extraction process will begin, and production levels will gradually ramp up in the coming weeks. The new facility is located in a region with robust oil and gas activity, and it was developed in partnership with a new collaborator. It is Iofina's seventh operational plant in Oklahoma, a state known for its favorable conditions for iodine extraction due to the brine-rich environment.
IO#10 is anticipated to make a significant contribution to the company’s overall production of crystalline iodine, particularly through the remainder of the year. The facility is expected to deliver between 100 and 150 metric tons of iodine annually, adding to Iofina's growing output and reinforcing its capacity to meet market demand. The new plant also represents the latest in Iofina’s use of IOsorb technology, which is specifically designed to extract iodine from brine water that is a byproduct of oil and gas operations, making it a key part of Iofina's innovative approach to iodine production.
CEO Dr. Tom Becker expressed satisfaction with the commissioning of IO#10, calling it a significant milestone in the company’s growth plan. He emphasized that the new plant will materially enhance Iofina’s total crystalline iodine production for the remainder of the year and beyond. Dr. Becker also noted that the company is in advanced discussions with its chosen brine water partner for the development of its next plant, IO#11. This expansion is in line with Iofina’s long-term strategy to steadily increase its production capabilities and further strengthen its market position.
Further updates regarding IO#11 are expected soon, as the company continues its focus on expanding its operations through strategic partnerships and the efficient use of brine water resources.
