Highlights
- Drilling completed at Darwin #1 well in Rudyard, Montana.
- Reached a depth of 5,488 feet with promising helium shows across multiple horizons.
- Helium levels peaked at 1,312 ppm, with substantial 330-foot gross pay zone.
Helix Exploration (LSE:HEX), a helium-focused exploration company, has successfully completed drilling operations at its Darwin #1 well within the Rudyard project in Montana's helium-rich "Montana Helium Fairway." The well reached a total depth of 5,488 feet in just 12 days, revealing high helium concentrations across several geological layers.
Key Discoveries
During drilling, significant helium gas shows were observed, with helium concentrations as high as 1,312 ppm (250 times background levels) in the Red River formation. Other formations also revealed high helium anomalies, including:
- Souris River Formation: 893 ppm helium at 5,062 feet (170x background).
- Dry Creek Formation: 1,006 ppm helium at 5,258 feet (190x background).
- Upper Cambrian Formation: 573 ppm helium at 5,340 feet (110x background).
Potential and Structure
The well showed 330 feet of gross pay across several reservoirs, with helium-bearing horizons extending to approximately 5,390 feet. Importantly, the well’s results suggest a larger anticline structure than previously modeled, indicating Darwin #1 may lie near the peak of a broad domal formation with greater closure potential.
Next Steps
With drilling complete, Helix Exploration will move to wireline logging at Darwin #1 to further evaluate potential reservoir zones for helium extraction. Additionally, testing at Helix’s Clink #1 well is ongoing, with initial gas analysis results expected soon.
