Highlights
- Drilling Commenced: Up to 8-10 reverse circulation (RC) drill holes planned, covering 800–1,500 meters.
- Targeting Porphyry Mineralisation: Early results indicate porphyry-style alteration from surface.
- Strategic Location: Viuda prospect benefits from proximity to road, power, and port infrastructure.
Great Southern Copper plc (LSE:GSCU), a copper-gold-lithium exploration company, has commenced a scout reverse circulation (RC) drilling programme at its Viuda prospect in Chile. The initiative aims to explore porphyry-style mineralisation in an area with favorable geochemistry, geology, and geophysics anomalies.
Drilling Details and Early Findings
The programme plans up to 10 drill holes, totaling between 800 and 1,500 meters, to test the porphyry model derived from surface mapping and sampling. The first hole, VIU24_RC001, is underway and has already intersected massive pyrite-albite-clay (PAC) alteration from the surface, supporting evidence of a large-scale porphyry-style alteration system.
This initial phase will also evaluate geochemical and magnetic anomalies previously identified through earlier studies. The results are expected to provide critical insights into the mineralisation potential of the prospect.
Strategic Advantage
The Viuda prospect is ideally situated near essential infrastructure, including roads, power supply, and port facilities, enhancing the project's viability for future development. Additionally, the company’s Purchase Option Agreement allows for full ownership of the prospect, reinforcing its strategic importance in Great Southern Copper’s portfolio.
