Empire Metals Ltd (LSE:EEE) has commenced a major exploration program at the Pitfield titanium project located in Western Australia. The company has initiated drilling operations at its primary targets, Thomas and Cosgrove, as part of this extensive exploration effort.
The exploration program will involve approximately 1,000 meters of Diamond Core drilling, scheduled to be completed in October. The primary objective of this drilling is to enhance the geological understanding of the weathered cap zone, focusing on critical parameters such as thickness, grade, and shape. The results are anticipated to provide valuable insights into the characteristics of the weathered sandstone-hosted deposit, which is known for its high-purity anatase content.
Empire Metals emphasizes that the thickness and TiO2 grade of the near-surface, weathered deposit will play a crucial role in determining the project's economic viability. The high-purity anatase found in this deposit is expected to have a significant positive impact on the overall project economics.
Shaun Bunn, Managing Director of Empire Metals, highlighted the importance of this drilling campaign. Bunn stated, "This drill campaign is focused on proving up the extent, grade, and shape of the concentrated zone of high-purity anatase within the extensive weathered cap and providing further metallurgical samples. This is of particular importance to our ongoing project development plans."
In addition to the drilling operations, Empire Metals has announced the appointment of Tsog Batsaikhan as the company's senior geologist. Batsaikhan will collaborate with Exploration Manager Andrew Faragher on the drill program, bringing additional expertise to the exploration team.
The company’s efforts at the Pitfield project are aimed at advancing the understanding of the deposit and supporting future development activities. The results from this exploration program are expected to provide crucial data for shaping the project's progression and economic outlook.
