NSW health minister Brad Hazard has announced that it is mandatory for all the businesses to use the NSW Government QR code system from 1 January 2021.
Starting from the new year, every business in the New South Wales region will have to set up the QR code and those who fail to do so will have to face heavy fines. The QR code system has been developed to help the businesses with maintaining contactless customer records. The government of New South Wales has created a unique free QR code which the customers can scan when they visit the venue.

Customers are required to download and install Service NSW app on their phones while businesses will have to ensure they have taken all the steps to ensure smooth functioning of this set-up. The check-in information of every customer will be directly sent to Service NSW, so that the health workers can access the information whenever necessary.
Health minister Hazard said on Monday that the patrons who do not use the app out of goodwill, will have to mandatorily do so; otherwise, they will have to pay a $5,000 fine.
As of now, businesses have been asked to use their own QR codes. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said that their own system has been very helpful to the health officials. Now with Service NSW app in place, health officials will be able to get the visitors’ details more accurately.
Berejiklian said during the press conference on Monday that the app has been quite useful in contact-tracing, the contact-tracers who are working continuously. She added that it takes hardly three to four minutes to download the Service NSW app and that the government had given plenty of time to the businesses to set this up for usage.
Businesses have time till Friday 1st January 2021 to set up the system and start using the app else they will be slapped with a A$5,000 penalty.
