Installations from the Northern Territory's Parrtjima festival will light up Melbourne's Federation Square.
The popular Grounded installation at the Aboriginal light festival transforms Indigenous artworks into massive animations that are projected onto the ground.
The free event in Melbourne is the first time the projections have been installed outside Alice Springs and it features the work of a dozen artists from various art centres in the region, with soundscapes by Damian Robinson, Wicked Beat Sound System and Rhyan Clapham.
"The festival is a wonderful public event and also very significant in helping provide economic pathways for our Indigenous artists. Grounded is an exciting and contemporary way to enjoy Aboriginal art," Parrtjima curator Rhoda Roberts said.
Parrtjima, which means lighting up, conveys physical illumination but also bringing understanding to a subject.
The theme for the 2023 festival is Listening with Heart, and the artworks respond to the 2017 Statement from the Heart.
While the Alice Springs event showcases artwork against the backdrop of the 300 million year old MacDonnell Ranges, Melbourne's Grounded installation will illuminate the sandstone and architecture of Federation Square.
The installation can be seen at Federation Square from 8pm on March 10 and 11.
Parrtjima - A Festival in Light runs from April 7-16 in Alice Springs.
