Century Lithium Corp. (TSXV:LCE) has announced a significant milestone in its lithium extraction operations at its facility located in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. The company successfully produced battery-grade lithium carbonate, a crucial component for electric vehicle batteries and other high-tech applications.
Recent assay results from the second batch of lithium carbonate produced at the Pilot Plant revealed a remarkable purity level of 99.5%. This purity classification aligns with the standards required for battery-grade materials, showcasing the company's advancements in lithium processing.
The achievement of 99.5% purity followed improvements made to the extraction process, specifically addressing mechanical challenges that previously affected the quality of the product. Concerns related to impurities, notably sodium and calcium, have been significantly mitigated.
CEO Bill Willoughby expressed pride in the Pilot Plant team’s accomplishments, highlighting that the company had initially focused on producing concentrated lithium chloride solutions. A portion of these solutions was shipped offsite for further conversion, marking a shift in strategy to prioritize lithium carbonate as the primary end product.
