Fathom Nickel Inc. has announced encouraging results from its recent summer prospecting program at the Albert Lake property in Saskatchewan, an area gaining attention in the mining sector. A standout finding includes an outcrop gold sample that returned 2.68 grams per ton of gold, pointing to potential mineralization in the region.

This sampled outcrop is situated approximately 14 kilometers along the strike of Ramp Metals’ Ranger gold discovery. Alongside the gold sample, 13 other outcrop grab samples have shown anomalous levels of magnesium, chromium, nickel, and cobalt. These results suggest the presence of mafic-ultramafic intrusive rocks, indicating the potential for magmatic nickel sulphide mineralization.

Detailed Sampling Results

A total of 144 rock grab samples were collected and analyzed. The assays returned significant findings, including:

  • Up to 9.34% magnesium
  • Up to 622 parts per million (ppm) chromium
  • Up to 298 ppm nickel
  • Up to 59 ppm cobalt

These results underline the geological complexity present at the Albert Lake site.

Expert Commentary

Ian Fraser, Vice President of Exploration at Fathom Nickel, expressed enthusiasm regarding the results. “Upon the announcement of the Ranger gold discovery by our neighbor Ramp, intrigue grew around the possibility of gold mineralization extending onto our property,” Fraser stated. He noted that the 2022 heliborne magnetic survey had indicated substantial structural complexity at the southern end of the Albert Lake property, which now appears to correlate with the presence of both gold and mafic-ultramafic intrusives.

Future Exploration Plans

Although the results are preliminary, they have spurred interest in further exploration at the expansive 90,000+ hectare Albert Lake property. The company is well-positioned to pursue additional exploration activities, having obtained the necessary permits and established a camp on-site.

Fraser mentioned plans for follow-up field exploration and eventual drilling. He stated, “We look forward to performing follow-up exploratory work in 2025.” While this development generates excitement, the company intends to maintain its focus on its emerging high-grade nickel camps at both the Albert Lake and Gochager Lake properties.

The announcement of these findings positively impacted market perceptions, resulting in a 15% increase in Fathom Nickel's shares during early trading.
