Highlights

  • Giyani Metals Corp is advancing the construction of its Demonstration Plant for the K.Hill manganese project in Botswana, crucial for supplying high-quality manganese to the EV battery market.
  • Significant progress includes the completion of all Process Modules, ongoing cabling and piping work, and metallurgical testwork aimed at optimizing processing flows and eliminating hazardous chemicals.
  • Managed by Minopex, the Demonstration Plant is set to produce high-purity manganese and provide insights that will enhance future operations, reinforcing Giyani’s role as a key player in the metals & mining sector.

Giyani Metals Corp operates within the Metal & Mining sector and has recently provided an important update regarding the construction of its Demonstration Plant for the K.Hill battery-grade manganese project located in Botswana. This facility plays a crucial role in the company's strategy to produce high-quality manganese for the electric vehicle (EV) battery market.

Giyani Metals Corp (TSXV: EMM)’ key developments at the Demonstration Plant, situated in Johannesburg, include the completion of all Process Modules. Currently, the team is engaged in cabling and piping work as preparations for commissioning progress. Concurrently, metallurgical testwork is taking place at CM Solutions, aimed at optimizing the processing flowsheet. The focus is on minimizing the use of reagents, with significant advancements made to eliminate hydrofluoric acid from the process. This improvement reduces the need for storing and handling this potentially hazardous chemical at both the Demonstration Plant and the planned commercial site.

Testing is also ongoing for the Yokogawa Distributed Control System software, which is designed to facilitate continuous flow operation of the Demonstration Plant rather than a batch-based approach. This continuous process flow is essential, as it will help demonstrate the reliable production of battery-grade manganese, which is vital for securing offtake agreements with potential customers.

Minopex has been selected to manage the operations at the Demonstration Plant, which is on track to produce up to 600 kilograms of high-purity manganese daily in the fourth quarter of 2024. The plant’s design mirrors that of the larger planned Commercial Plant, scaled at a ratio of 1:10, allowing for insights that will enhance future operations while a Definitive Feasibility Study is scheduled for completion in 2025.

As the company advances its status as a battery metals developer, the upcoming production of battery-grade manganese is anticipated to mark a transformative phase in Giyani's development journey. The Demonstration Plant, regarded as one of the largest facilities of its kind globally, presents numerous advantages compared to smaller or non-continuous facilities.

The continuous operation of the Demonstration Plant will not only provide insights into steady-state operations but also showcase Giyani's capability to meet the stringent requirements of potential offtake partners. The insights gained during this phase are expected to preemptively address engineering challenges, thus minimizing risks associated with ramp-up and operational phases.

The successful construction and operation of the Demonstration Plant are poised to highlight the intrinsic value of the K.Hill project, reinforcing Giyani’s position as a producer of high-grade manganese essential for the rapidly growing EV battery market.
