Highlights
- Apple’s recent AI rollout has shown limited demand impact for iPhones, despite new features.
- UBS tracking reveals no substantial wait-time increase for iPhone models since Apple Intelligence launched.
- A distinct AI use case is seen as necessary to significantly drive smartphone sales.
Apple Inc. (NEO:AAPL) has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature set aimed at enhancing user experience on iPhone models. Despite these additions, recent data shows minimal increase in demand for the latest iPhones. According to UBS, the highly anticipated launch of Apple Intelligence, which includes generative AI writing and enhanced Siri voice control tools, hasn’t yet delivered a noticeable uptick in demand. This rollout, available in US English for iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models, is expected to improve user engagement, yet market response appears tempered.
Current iPhone Wait Times Post-AI Introduction
Tracking data from UBS highlights that iPhone wait times following the AI release do not show a significant rise compared to previous models. Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro Max sees a wait time of around twelve days, slightly shorter than last year's iPhone 15, which saw a seventeen-day wait. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and Plus models have seen mixed wait times, with six days and two days respectively, compared to four days and no delay for similar models last year. Despite these differences, UBS reports that these figures indicate steady demand rather than an increase.
Challenges in AI Adoption for Apple’s Market Growth
The absence of a distinctive AI-driven “killer” feature may be contributing to the tempered response in Apple’s user base. According to UBS, a transformative AI use case—something that could redefine iPhone value for users—appears necessary to drive substantial demand. Current demand tracking suggests that the latest AI features, while innovative, have not yet influenced consumer preferences significantly. Demand data from regions like China shows continued decrease, indicating that the new AI functionalities haven’t generated a notable boost internationally.
Future Outlook for Apple’s AI Features
With the AI features still relatively new, UBS suggests that there remains a possibility for wait time data to shift slightly in the future if consumer interest in the technology grows. However, this change is expected to be minor, without a significant effect on Apple’s performance in the upcoming December quarter. UBS’s recent analysis underscores the importance of feature evolution in Apple’s AI journey, as the market adjusts to this new phase in technology integration.
