Highlights

  • NV-387 demonstrates activity across multiple viral infections, including Mpox, influenza, RSV, and COVID

  • Company preparing to initiate Phase II trial for Mpox treatment candidate NV-387

  • NanoViricides explores topical treatment for shingles rash with NV-HHV-101 in Phase I-ready stage

NanoViricides, listed on the Tsx Smallcap Index, is operating in the pharmaceuticals sector with a strategic focus on antiviral therapeutics. The company has progressed its proprietary nanoviricide technology to a clinical-stage pipeline, aiming to address a broad spectrum of viral threats with precision-based drug candidates.

The platform is designed to encapsulate and neutralize viruses without reliance on immune modulation, offering a potential therapeutic avenue amid continuously evolving viral strains. NanoViricides’ lead compound, NV-387, is formulated to exhibit activity against multiple viral families and is advancing toward a Phase II clinical trial for Mpox.

NV-387 Positioned for Phase II Advancement in Mpox Indication

NV-387 is being developed for treatment against Mpox and other members of the orthopoxvirus family. The compound has been tested in animal models simulating human orthopox infections using Ectromelia virus. Both inhalation and skin contact pathways of infection were evaluated. The results showed extended survival durations following oral administration of NV-387. These outcomes were measured against benchmark antiviral agents approved for smallpox treatment.

The World Health Organization’s extension of Mpox's global health status highlights the relevance of NV-387 as NanoViricides continues preclinical and regulatory preparations to move forward with human trials.

Broad-Spectrum Antiviral Effectiveness Across Multiple Infections

NanoViricides has conducted comparative studies with NV-387 against widely used influenza treatments. In experiments involving highly virulent influenza strains, NV-387 surpassed traditional options in improving survival rates in lethal lung infection models. These findings support its role in managing seasonal and pandemic influenza threats.

The NV-387 compound has also shown efficacy against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), coronavirus variants including COVID-19, avian influenza strains such as H5N1, and other respiratory pathogens. Based on preclinical outcomes, NanoViricides is working toward filing a pre-Investigational New Drug application with the US Food and Drug Administration for NV-387 in RSV treatment, with a focus on pediatric and adult populations.

Dermal Antiviral Candidate NV-HHV-101 Advances Toward Clinical Trials

Alongside NV-387, NanoViricides is developing NV-HHV-101, a dermal topical cream targeting shingles rash associated with varicella-zoster virus. The drug is also being evaluated for its activity against herpes simplex viruses HSV-1 and HSV-2. NV-HHV-101 is currently Phase I-ready, with future plans aligned with expanding therapeutic applications in dermatological antiviral care.

The NanoViricides pipeline includes additional candidates for treatment of HIV/AIDS and other viral conditions. The company’s proprietary nanoviricide platform continues to serve as the technological foundation across all developments.

The achievement of development milestones in these programs is expected to broaden NanoViricides’ footprint in the antiviral therapeutics space, while increasing alignment with co-development pathways and pharmaceutical collaboration initiatives.
