CuFe Ltd (ASX:CUF), alongside Tennant Minerals Ltd and Emmerson Resources Ltd, is advancing a significant initiative to establish a copper and gold processing hub in the Tennant Creek area of the Northern Territory. This strategic alliance, formed in October 2024, focuses on creating a multi-user facility that could process not only gold and copper but also critical minerals from various projects in the region.
Currently moving from a scoping study to a pre-feasibility study, the collaboration aims to assess the feasibility of the processing facility in detail. This initiative merges the strengths and resources of the three companies, which are committed to optimizing operational efficiencies and reducing costs through shared infrastructure.
The technical teams from each company are diligently working on several critical workstreams: updating resources for CuFe’s Orlando and Gecko deposits, as well as for Tennant Minerals’ Bluebird and Emmerson Resources’ Jasper Hills and Hermitage deposits. They are also engaged in intensive metallurgical test work, developing process plant flow sheets and sizing, which are essential for establishing efficient processing operations.
Further, the partners are focusing on mine optimization, which includes both underground and open-pit optimizations, mine design, and scheduling. These efforts are designed to enhance output and processing efficiency. Logistical networks are being evaluated and optimized, and detailed operational and capital cost estimates are being prepared.
The ongoing strength in gold and copper prices, complemented by the rising values of critical minerals such as bismuth and cobalt, underpins the economic viability of this ambitious project. The envisioned facility is expected to play a crucial role in rekindling copper mining and processing activities in the region, thereby providing significant economic benefits not only to the companies involved but also to the broader Barkly region and the Northern Territory.
The initiative has also received substantial backing from local government, highlighted by a supportive letter from the Mines Minister of the Northern Territory. This endorsement underscores the government’s recognition of the project’s potential economic benefits for the region and its strategic importance to the national mining industry.
As the alliance moves forward with its pre-feasibility study, the prospects for establishing Tennant Creek as a major mineral processing hub in Australia look increasingly promising. This collaboration, driven by shared goals and mutual benefits, is set to redefine the mining and processing landscape in the Northern Territory.
