Viking Mines Limited (ASX:VKA) has reported promising developments at its Riverina East Project in Western Australia, including the discovery of multiple gold nuggets and commencement of a significant drill campaign.
The company has recovered numerous gold nuggets totalling 9.84 grams from the Southern Structural Target (SST) area within its Riverina East Project. The discovery was made across a 300m stretch, situated within 100m of auger soil samples exceeding 50ppb gold and approximately 400m north of historical drill intercepts which previously returned 4m at 5.1g/t Au and 4m at 4.9g/t Au. The discovery of several nuggets, including one weighing 3.37 grams and with traces of quartz attached, which suggest that the mineralisation is likely close to its bedrock source.
In response to these encouraging signs, the company has mobilised a drill rig to site and initiated a ~4,300m drilling campaign. This program includes follow-up drilling at the Bifrost Target and initial drilling at the SST area.
Additionally, a drone magnetic geophysics survey is in progress over the Bifrost area. This survey is expected to enhance drill targeting for future exploration phases.
Planned Drilling at Southern Structural Target
An initial drill programme has been scheduled at the SST to evaluate a 1.8km-long 20ppb auger soil anomaly. This anomaly aligns with historic Rotary Air Blast (RAB) and reverse circulation (RC) drill intercepts. Drilling will also target the area surrounding the recently discovered gold nuggets, which are positioned on the flanks of the anomaly.
The SST drill programme, consisting of approximately 23 holes for a total of 2,800m, is set to commence after the completion of Phase 3 drilling at Bifrost South, which is currently underway. Drilling at the SST is anticipated to conclude in August.
Bifrost South Exploration Update
A step-out RC drilling programme has commenced at the Bifrost South target. This programme comprises approximately 1,500 metres of drilling across 9 holes, aimed at following up on key Phase 2 intercepts, including:
Next Steps
In the coming weeks, the company will focus on the safe and efficient execution of its Phase 3 drilling programme. Key planned activities include:
- Completion of drilling at Bifrost South and the SST.
- Ongoing review and logging of drill chips to further develop the geological model at Bifrost South.
- Completion, evaluation, and interpretation of the drone magnetic survey data.
- Submission of drill samples for assay and fast-tracked result turnaround.
- Continued surface prospecting at the SST area.
