- The Covid-19 powered revolution has swapped the formal wear with pyjamas and leggings
UK’s leading fashion & food retailer, Marks and Spencer Group Plc (LON: MKS) has reportedly extended its offers on the bestselling activewear this season as a result of a paradigm shift in lives brought by the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, leading fashion brands, including MKS, have expanded their activewear range and are expected to increase their range in kidswear and men’s lines.
The lockdowns, social distancing and remote working, have become the new norms. People who bought formal wear are now more inclined towards wearing comfortable clothes which look good and presentable on screen. This has called for a wardrobe upgrade with activewear. The Covid-19 powered change has changed the formal attire with pyjamas and leggings.

A lot of people are also opting for sportswear during this period. As a result, Marks & Spencer has launched its Goodmove sportswear collection, which is available online as well as offline. Moreover, M&S has seen heightened demand for its extremely soft and comfortable ‘sports bra and legging combo’ that is both stylish and practical, perfect for the gym, long walks or even a run.
In the pre-pandemic era, loungewear and sleepwear had gained acceptance and witnessed stable demand. However, during the peak of the unprecedented crisis, loungewear witnessed a huge jump in the UK as consumer demand swelled in April. Brands specialising in sleep and loungewear, including Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and other premium brands have witnessed heightened demand.

Brands are looking to capitalise on the increased demand for activewear, and the launch of traditional seasonal fashion collections have taken a backseat due to coronavirus led restrictions. The sale of tracksuits has gone up substantially with the coronavirus restrictions in place. This product category witnessed some major stock-outs for most of the time this year. Hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants, and leggings are other hottest selling items in the activewear category.
Not only this, with many restaurants closed during this time of the year, M&S is offering ‘Dine In meal’ deals for just £15.
