Highlights:

  • HeLIX Exploration has completed construction and is set to begin drilling at the Rudyard helium project in Montana.
  • The Darwin #1 well aims to tap into an estimated helium resource valued at over $250 million.
  • The project benefits from developed infrastructure and recent land expansions, spanning 6,674 acres.

HeLIX Exploration PLC has completed road and drill pad construction at its Rudyard helium project in northern Montana, setting the stage for appraisal drilling to begin on the promising Darwin #1 well. The drilling will be conducted with the Treasure State Drilling Cardwell KB-150 rig, which is already in place. Operations are expected to kick off this week, marking a significant milestone as the company explores an estimated 484,193 Mcf of helium—a potential value exceeding $250 million based on current market prices.

Situated on a large geological formation known as a domal anticline, the Rudyard project holds promising potential. Previous exploratory activity in surrounding areas has shown helium concentrations as high as 1.3%, bolstering expectations for helium-rich gas. HeLIX CEO Bo Sears has expressed optimism, stating, “I would like to extend a warm welcome back to Treasure State Drilling, who executed an exemplary job during the drilling of Clink #1. We anticipate a fruitful collaboration as we embark on this new phase and look forward to keeping the market updated on our progress.”

HeLIX’s landholdings in the Rudyard region now cover 6,674 acres after recent acquisitions, enhancing its footprint along Montana’s Sweet Grass Arch. With previous wells confirming commercial helium flows, the company plans to target reservoirs at depths of 5,000 to 5,500 feet, allowing for more cost-effective exploration. Aeon Petroleum Consultants recently evaluated the resource potential, identifying high-potential zones that will be targeted during this phase of drilling.

Located near existing infrastructure, including road, rail, and power access, the Rudyard project is positioned for both logistical and operational efficiency, with processing and potential commercialization supported by the area’s developed network. Following successful operations at the company’s Ingomar Dome project, HeLIX is optimistic about Rudyard’s outcomes and future expansions in helium exploration.

With exploration ready to begin at Rudyard, HeLIX continues to solidify its presence in the helium sector, leveraging favorable conditions and strategic land expansions to optimize operational costs and resource output. The company’s proactive approach and strategic infrastructure alignments underscore its ambition to become a key player in the helium market.
