Marula Mining PLC (AQSE: MARU, A2X: MARU), a prominent player in African mining and development, has announced promising assay results from channel samples taken from manganese ore within its licensed areas in Kenya. These results highlight a high-grade zone of manganese ore that will be crucial for the recently acquired Kilifi Manganese Processing Plant (the "Kilifi Plant") in Kilifi County.
The assay results reveal a high-grade manganese zone with thicknesses reaching up to 1.0 meters and manganese content ranging from 44.13% to 71.01%. This high-grade ore is situated at depths of approximately 5 meters below the existing low to medium-grade deposits found in the Ganze Region of Kilifi County. Notably, these deposits are known to extend over a significant 30-kilometer strike length.
Marula Mining anticipates a consistent supply of manganese ore from the Ganze Region at a rate of 10,000 tonnes per month, as outlined in the Manganese Ore Supply Agreement with Kitmin Holdings Limited ("Kitmin"), effective from 1 August 2024. This agreement is a key component of Marula’s strategy to enhance the output and efficiency of the Kilifi Plant.
The assay results underline the potential for Marula's wholly owned subsidiary, Muchai Mining Kenya Limited ("MMK"), to leverage this high-grade manganese ore. At the Kilifi Plant, the ore can be processed to produce either a high-grade manganese product or blended with lower-grade ore to create a higher-value final product. This flexibility will significantly bolster the plant’s production capabilities and market competitiveness.
