Highlights:
- Full Ownership Acquisition: InPost is set to acquire the remaining 70% of Menzies Distribution Group.
- Strategic Expansion: This deal reflects InPost’s strategy to expand its last-mile logistics capabilities in the UK and Europe.
- Rising Valuation: InPost’s valuation has surged to nearly €9 billion, driven by high demand for logistics and delivery services.
Logistics firm InPost is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to take full ownership of Menzies Distribution Group. InPost, headquartered in Luxembourg but primarily operating in Poland, already holds a 30% stake in Menzies, which it acquired in July 2022 for £49.3 million. The company is now in advanced negotiations to purchase the remaining 70%, according to sources cited by Sky News.
InPost's Expansion Strategy
InPost, listed in Amsterdam and valued at nearly €9 billion, has rapidly become one of Europe’s largest operators of last-mile logistics solutions, which cater to the final leg of delivery from a distribution hub to the customer. Its 2022 purchase of a 30% stake in Menzies allowed InPost the option to acquire the remaining shares within a three-year period, a move it now seems poised to execute ahead of schedule.
Menzies Distribution, which provides distribution services across the UK, is also backed by Leeds-based private equity investor Endless. InPost’s strategic push for full ownership of Menzies aligns with its broader goal of expanding its reach and capabilities within the logistics sector across Europe.
InPost's Growth Trajectory
Since going public in early 2021 under the guidance of private equity firm Advent International, InPost has seen its valuation and market presence soar. This has been driven by increasing demand for efficient delivery solutions, particularly in the e-commerce sector. The anticipated acquisition of Menzies reflects InPost's ongoing efforts to bolster its last-mile delivery capabilities and further solidify its footprint in the UK.
While the exact value of the deal has not been disclosed, the transaction is expected to be confirmed within the week. Both InPost and Endless have declined to comment publicly on the matter.
