What All You Need to Know in Thursday’s Trading Session?

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in red - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 142.90 points or 4.48 per cent lower at 3,047.24, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index contracted by 1,426.78 points or 5.29 per cent lower at 25,563.21, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded lower at 9,654.12, down by 366.23 points or 3.65 per cent against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 1:35 PM ET).

US News: Wall Street tumbled after the bleak economic projections unveiled by the Federal Reserve. Subsequently, the oil market tumbled as Crude Oil WTI Futures shed over 7.0 per cent to $36.66 per barrel, amid the proliferated fears of the second wave of the COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, the weekly jobless claims stood at 1.542 million for the last week (ended 6th June 2020). Among the gaining stocks, the recent rise in COVID-19 cases resulted in downbeat sentiments for travel & leisure stocks and thus, United Airlines Holdings, American Airlines and Wynn Resorts fell around 11.0 per cent, 10.6 per cent and 4.7 per cent, respectively. Among the decliners, Exxon Mobil and Chevron plunged around 5.7 and 5.1 per cent, respectively after the oil price crash.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Kroger Co (KR), Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (REGN), and Netflix Inc (NFLX) stocks jumped by 2.27 per cent, 2.05 per cent and 1.99 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: ONEOK Inc (OKE), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH) and Carnival Corp (CCL) shares decreased by 11.96 per cent, 11.62 per cent and 10.73 per cent, respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Wah Fu Education Group Ltd (WAFU), Color Star Technology Co Ltd (HHT) and OptimumBank Holdings Inc (OPHC) shares expanded by 513.33 per cent, 85.19 per cent and 82.54 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: Liberty Tripadvisor Holdings Inc (LTRPA), Moxian Inc (MOXC) and Mustang Bio Inc (MBIO) shares plunged by 33.60 per cent, 31.90 per cent and 27.28 per cent, respectively.

Top Worst Sectors*: Energy (-4.66 per cent), Financials (-4.09 per cent) and Industrials (-3.86 per cent).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Walmart Inc (WMT) shares zoomed up by around per cent, 0.31 per cent.

Worst Performers*: Boeing Co (BA), Dow Inc (DOW) and Raytheon Technologies Corp (RTX) shares plunged by 8.67 per cent, 6.61 per cent and 6.17 per cent, respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index - FTSE 100 closed at 252.43 points or 3.99 per cent lower at 6,076.70, the FTSE 250 index last traded at 631.79 points or 3.59 per cent lower at 16,973.67, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 136.06 points or 3.89 per cent lower at 3,363.63, respectively. European index STOXX 600 ended lower by 15.08 points or 4.10 per cent, at 353.07. Among other European indices - DAX index closed the trading session at 11,970.29, down by 559.87 points or 4.47 per cent; CAC 40 index contracted by 237.82 points or 4.71 per cent and ended the trading session at 4,815.60.

European News: London and European markets tanked due to apprehensions arising from the likelihood of the second wave of COVID-19 infection and bleak economic projections presented by the Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, the British house prices touched a 10-year low in May; however, the lockdown easing returning the investor confidence. Among the gaining stocks, Unilever rose around 1.4 per cent post unveiling plans to combine its British and Dutch legal entity. CMC Markets PLC soared 24 per cent due to an increase in full-year profits. Among the decliners, Johnson Matthey shed around 3.1 per cent due to demand slump and a dividend cut. Carnival and TUI plunged around 9.5 per cent and 6.6 per cent, respectively with fears regarding the second wave of the pandemic.

London Stock Exchange

Top Three Performers*: CMC MARKETS PLC (CMCX), PLUS500 LTD (PLUS) and CENTAMIN PLC (CEY) accelerated significantly by 24.50 per cent, 5.55 per cent and 5.39 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: METRO BANK PLC (MTRO), TED BAKER PLC (TED) and CINEWORLD GROUP PLC (CINE) plunged by 18.16 per cent, 14.52 per cent and 14.46 per cent, respectively.

Best Gainers*: POLYMETAL INTERNATIONAL PLC (LON:POLY), LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE GROUP PLC (LON:LSE) & TESCO PLC (LON:TSCO) leapt up by 2.36 per cent, 1.69 per cent and 0.71 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: CARNIVAL PLC (LON:CCL), ITV PLC (LON:ITV) and MELROSE INDUSTRIES PLC (LON:MRO) traded in red zone and decreased by 9.93 per cent, 8.03 per cent and 6.99 per cent, respectively.

3 Active Stocks with Decent Volume*: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC; (VOD) VODAFONE PLC.

Top Sectors traded in the negative zone*: Telecommunications Services (-6.40 per cent), Consumer Cyclicals (-4.42 per cent) and Energy (-4.10 per cent).

Crude Oil Future Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price was hovering at $36.52 per barrel, and Brent future crude oil (future) price was trading at $38.74 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.2597 and 0.8984, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield was tilting at 0.669 per cent, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.196 per cent, respectively.
