FTSE 100 Inched Lower by 0.23%; Crude Oil Breached $81 Level

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in red - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 66.01 points or 1.52 per cent lower at 4,291.04, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index dipped by 435.08 points or 1.27 per cent lower at 33,891.38, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded lower at 14,233.20, down by 333.50 points or 2.29 per cent against the previous day close (at the time of writing – 11:45 AM ET).

US Market News: The major indices of Wall Street traded in a red zone after the oil price reached record high. Among the gaining stocks, Tesla (TSLA) shares went up by around 2.05% after the Company delivered record vehicles during the third quarter. Southwest Airlines (LUV) shares grew by around 1.51% after Barclays upgraded the stock to “overweight”. Among the declining stocks, 3M (MMM) shares dropped by around 0.87% after JP Morgan downgraded the Company to “neutral”. Delta Air Lines (DAL) shares went down by around 0.79% after the Company had reiterated the original third-quarter revenue forecast.

UK Market News: The London markets traded in a red zone amid investors’ worries regarding the Evergrande crisis and rising inflation. Moreover, the oil price rose to a multi-year high as OPEC+ stuck to an increase in production output.

Plus500 shares increased by about 2.32% after the Company mentioned in a trading update that the full-year FY21 revenue and EBITDA would remain more than the consensus forecast.

                     

How did global markets fared on Monday?

 

Compass Group shares dropped by around 2.73% after Chief Financial Officer Karen Witts had decided to step down with effect from 31 October 2021.

WM Morrison stated that Clayton, Dubilier & Rice had won the auction with a bid of 287 pence per share. However, the shares fell by around 3.12%.

FTSE 100 listed AstraZeneca shares rose by around 0.81% after Enhertu granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation in the US for patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer.

Crude Oil Future Prices*: Brent future crude oil (future) price and WTI crude oil (future) price were hovering at $81.57/barrel and $77.97/barrel, respectively.

Gold Price*: Gold price was quoting at US$ 1,765.05 per ounce, up by 0.38% against the prior day closing.

Currency Rates*: GBP to USD: 1.3607; EUR to USD: 1.1620.

Bond Yields*: US 10-Year Treasury yield: 1.479%; UK 10-Year Government Bond yield: 1.0085%.
