Aldi has reported its best Christmas with the sales surging by 10.6 per cent in the four weeks to Christmas Eve compared to last year.
- Britain’s fifth largest supermarket also reported a 75 per cent surge in sales of its online wine and “special buy” offerings.
- The retailer was able to sell 4.5 million bottles of champagne, sparkling wine and prosecco during the period. Also, it witnessed a huge demand for its premium products.
- Ahead of Christmas, Aldi scheduled different slots for the busy Christmas shopping period with incentives such as digital queueing systems.

- CEO Giles Hurley commenting on the development stated that it was a record Christmas for the company, with extraordinary demand for their award-winning products as customers spent more than ever before on a pandemic impacted Christmas celebration.
- He added that the company was expecting significant sales growth this year as it is opening new stores, targeting 1,200 stores in the next five years by 2025.
- The company as part of its expansion in the country has also drawn up plans to spend an additional £3.5 billion a year with British suppliers by 2025.
- It was last month only, that the online retailer following the footsteps of other major retailers announced to return the full amount of over £100 million to the government, which it received as business rates relief.
