Canada generates most of its capital from its natural resources and has some of the leading metals and mining companies in the world. In early 2020, this sector was hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic-led shutdowns. Many mining companies had to stop their drilling and metal production operations. However, these metals (specifically gold) and mining stocks have recorded handsome growth this year:

 

1. Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (TSX:AEM)

 

The gold miner stocks are up nearly 10 per cent year-to-date (YTD). Its current market cap stands at approximately C$ 21.76 billion. The precious metal miner pays a quarterly dividend of US$ 0.35 per stock. Its 3-year dividend is 20.08 per cent.

This large-cap stock has a return on equity (ROE) of 12.01 per cent.  Its present earnings per share (EPS) are C$ 3.50, as per TMX data.

 

2. Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX:ABX)

 

One of the largest gold manufacturers of the world holds a quarterly dividend of US$ 0.09 per common share, with three-year dividend growth of 20.21 per cent.

Barrick Gold stocks are up over 20 per cent this year. Its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is 13.10, and its current market cap is nearly C$ 52 billion. The stock delivers a positive ROE of 13.61 per cent.

 

3. Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K)

 

Kinross stocks have returned almost 48 per cent growth in 2020.  The gold producer stocks have an ROE of 19.74 per cent and a double-digit return on assets (ROA).

Its present EPS is C$ 1.14, and its current market cap stands at C$ 11.55 billion. The gold corporation’s Board of Directors has approved a quarterly cash dividend of US$0.03 per common share for Q3 2020, and its dividend yield is 1.173 per cent.

4. First Quantum Minerals Ltd (TSX:FM)

 

The multi-metal miner stocks have gained nearly 70 per cent YTD. It holds a semi-annual dividend of C$ 0.005 per stock.

The company registered sales of US$ 1,402 million, a surge of 42 per cent from the comparable period of 2019, guided by the commercial sales volumes of copper and gold.

 

5. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ)

 

The global miner stocks deliver an ROE of 4.63 per cent and a ROA of 3.25 per cent. Its current PE ratio is 5.90, as per TMX data.

Its scrips have added approximately 65 per cent of growth in 2020.

 

6. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corporation (TSX:LIF)

 

The steel firm stocks have surged over 29 per cent this year. Its present PE ratio stands at 10.20.

The company is paying a quarterly cash dividend of C$ 0.25 per stock, with a current dividend yield of 3.131.
