Oncolytics Biotech® Inc. (NASDAQ:ONCY) (TSX:ONC), a pioneering clinical-stage company focused on immunotherapy for cancer treatment, has shared a compelling corporate update detailing significant progress and expectations for 2025. Interim CEO Wayne Pisano expressed optimism about the recent results from the BRACELET-1 trial, highlighting the strong efficacy signal for pelareorep in treating breast cancer. “Having treated well over 100 HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer patients in multiple clinical studies, these results provide the basis for a development path leading to an accelerated approval,” he stated.

The BRACELET-1 study has produced results that not only exceed expectations but also underscore the potential of pelareorep as a transformative therapeutic option for patients with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. The trial indicated a progression-free survival (PFS) benefit of 5.7 months when comparing pelareorep combined with paclitaxel to traditional chemotherapy. Building on these findings, Oncolytics plans to submit an application to the FDA early in 2025 for a larger Phase 2 trial designed to support accelerated approval. This study will focus on approximately 180 patients who have progressed on antibody-drug conjugates like Enhertu and represent a significant unmet need in the U.S. with an estimated 55,000 patients eligible.

Dr. Thomas Heineman, Chief Medical Officer at Oncolytics, emphasized the importance of the BRACELET-1 results in shaping the company's approach to future studies. He noted that the design of their upcoming trials incorporates insights from leading experts in breast cancer treatment, ensuring a strategic and informed path forward.

In addition to breast cancer, Oncolytics is prioritizing pancreatic cancer research, a notoriously challenging area with high unmet medical needs. Collaborating with the Global Coalition for Adaptive Research (GCAR), the company aims to explore the efficacy of pelareorep in pancreatic cancer through the GOBLET study. Funding from The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) further strengthens this initiative, underscoring the commitment to addressing this aggressive disease.

Mr. Pisano expressed enthusiasm about the gastrointestinal cancer data and its implications for making pancreatic cancer a key focus. The company's ongoing research reflects its broader mission to deliver effective immunotherapies across various cancer types.

As Oncolytics Biotech gears up for an exciting year ahead, the company is well-positioned to make significant advancements in the field of oncology. With promising clinical data supporting pelareorep's potential across multiple cancer indications, the upcoming Phase 2 study in HR+/HER2- breast cancer represents a crucial step toward accelerated approval.

In summary, Oncolytics Biotech is not only reinforcing its commitment to innovative cancer therapies but also laying the groundwork for future growth. The company’s strategic focus on both breast cancer and pancreatic cancer positions it to make meaningful contributions to the oncology landscape, and stakeholders can look forward to important developments in the near future.
