Why Are EV Stocks Tesla & NIO Gaining Steam?

Tax incentives for electric vehicles (EVs) from the US and Canadian governments have resulted in revenue impetus for EV makers. Policymakers of both countries are moving towards a clean ecosystem that has resulted in EVs stocks gaining momentum worldwide.

Tesla Inc. manufactured 145,000 electric vehicles during the third quarter of 2020 and delivered almost 139,300 of them, with 7 per cent left in inventory for leasing. In the last one month, the EV stock has swelled almost 40 per cent.

NIO reported delivery of 5,291 electric vehicles in the last month, a surge of 109.3 per cent year-over-year (YoY). NIO has distributed 36,721 EVs in 2020, up by 111.1 per cent YoY. Stocks of the Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer traded nearly 28 per cent higher in the last one month.

Elon Musk-led Tesla has been making headlines almost every day in the wake of its whopping stock performance for the last few months.

The clean vehicle stock has zoomed over 615 per cent year-to-date (YTD).

The EV stock yielded nearly 235 per cent returns in the last six months. Its price shot up by over 721 per cent since its March market-meltdown.

Its current market capitalization is US$ 562.46 billion. Its price-to-book (P/B) ratio is 33.63, return on equity is 4.94 per cent, and price-to-cash flow (P/CF) ratio is 133.10, as per the TMX website.

Its 10-day average stock trading volume has reached 45.40 million units. Its present earnings per share stands at US$ 0.51.

In the third quarter of 2020, the company posted a net income (GAAP) of US$ 331 million and total revenue of US$ 8.77 billion.

The Chinese EV maker stocks added an astonishing 1119 per cent growth this year. The scrips have soared over 711 per cent in the last six months, and by nearly 152 per cent in the last three months.

Its present market cap stands at approximately US$ 61.77 billion. Its P/B ratio is 50.955 and debt-to-equity ratio is 121, as per the TMX website.

NIO’s 10-day average trading volume is 299.75 million units and 221 million units in the last 30 days.

In the third quarter of 2020, the Chinese company registered total revenues of US$ 666.6 million, a rise of 146.4 per cent YoY and a surge of 21.7 per cent quarter-over-quarter.

Vehicle sales were US$ 628.4 million in the third quarter of 2020, representing an increase of 146.1 per cent YoY.
