Highlights:
- Viking Mines (VKA) plans phase-two drilling at Northern Duplex target.
- The new discovery expands opportunities for a large gold deposit.
- Assay results confirm significant gold mineralisation in the region.
Viking Mines (ASX:VKA), an exploration company focused on gold and battery minerals, is set to launch a phase-two drilling program at its Northern Duplex target in Western Australia. This follows promising results from a recently completed first-phase drilling campaign. The company’s exploration activities are gaining momentum as it looks to unlock the potential of this new gold zone, which is located in a region with significant historical mining activity.
The Northern Duplex target is part of Viking’s broader First Hit Gold Project, which lies along the prospective Ida and Zuleika Shear zones in the Eastern Goldfields. The project is situated near the Riverina gold mine owned by Ora Banda Mining (ASX:OBM), just 10km to the southwest. The Riverina mine, which has a surface strike extent of 900 meters, offers a promising comparison for Viking’s exploration efforts. Viking’s CEO, Julian Woodcock, emphasized the scale of the area being drill-tested and the potential for discovering a substantial gold deposit, given the similarities in tenor to other significant gold deposits in the region.
Drilling results from hole VKRC0068 returned 17 meters at 1.1 grams per tonne of gold, confirming the presence of a steeply dipping gold zone. This discovery is particularly noteworthy as it indicates that the mineralisation is open along strike, with no prior drilling constraints. Viking Mines now has an opportunity to further explore the area and assess the full potential of this gold zone. The company is also set to conduct additional fieldwork and follow-up drill testing to refine its understanding of the target area.
To enhance its exploration efforts, Viking is also launching an infill auger drilling program designed to define the target anomalies more accurately. This will help the company focus on areas with the highest chance of success. Additionally, Viking is in the process of securing quotes for a high-resolution magnetic geophysics survey to better understand the geological structures and refine its targeting strategy.
With its strong focus on exploration and its strategic position in the heart of Western Australia’s gold-producing region, Viking Mines continues to make progress toward the potential discovery of a new gold deposit that could significantly boost the company’s growth prospects.
