Highlights:
- Strata Minerals initiates a maiden drilling program at Penny South, located near high-grade deposits operated by Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS).
- Exploration at Biranup project, adjacent to major gold producer Tropicana Mine, begins as Strata refocuses on gold exploration.
- The Company sets sights on testing down-plunge mineralised trends based on promising historical data review.
Strata Minerals (ASX:SMX) is set to commence its inaugural drilling program at the Penny South project, strategically located near the high-calibre Penny West and Penny North gold deposits managed by Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS). The area is southeast of Mt Magnet, part of the prolific Youanmi Greenstone Belt.
The initiative aims to gather geological insights along the Penny West Shear, a geological stretch renowned for its rich gold deposits, and boasts a ~2.5 km strike extension. With a proximity of just 550 meters from Ramelius’ highly productive sites, Penny South is positioned advantageously for potential discoveries.
Strategic Exploration Approach
Since acquiring the project in September 2024, Strata has conducted an exhaustive analysis of available data. Historical drilling, consisting predominantly of RAB and AC holes, lays the foundation for the current exploration strategy. At present, less than 3% of past drills were reverse circulation (RC) holes, and the historical maximum depth rarely exceeded 200 meters.
The exploration program targets interpreted down-plunge mineralized trends and aims to reach deeper into the Earth to tap into these promising geological formations. This methodology mirrors the successful exploration activity by predecessors, particularly Spectrum Metals, which revealed lucrative mineral deposits at nearby Penny North.
Fieldwork at the Biranup Project
Strata has also announced the commencement of fieldwork at its Biranup project, situated adjacent to the reputed Tropicana Mine, operated by notable gold producers AngloGold and Regis Resources (ASX:RRL). As one of Australia’s leading gold production areas, Biranup holds significant mineral promise.
The ongoing exploration seeks to unlock new gold targets and enhance understanding of the site’s potential. Strata anticipates considerable value addition through concentrated gold exploration efforts, bolstered by strategic geographical positioning and proximate successful operations.
Future Prospects
The drilling program at Penny South and exploratory work at the Biranup project marks a significant step in Strata's strategic pivot towards gold exploration. The initiatives underscore a meticulous evaluation of geological potential, leveraging historical data to facilitate informed exploration.
With several high-priority targets identified, these projects may reveal the next valuable gold deposits, expanding the company’s growth and positioning within Australia’s competitive resource landscape.
