Barton Gold (ASX:BGD) is advancing its exploration at the Tarcoola project in South Australia with a new drilling program aimed at defining the promising Tolmer gold discovery further. The initial find was made earlier this year during an extensive drilling campaign and confirmed with high-grade assays in August, revealing a newly interpreted gold-mineralised system within quartz sulphide veining in broader alteration zones.
This discovery is significant, as it marked the first successful test of a new structural model for the Tarcoola project. The results demonstrate the potential for multiple shallow, high-grade gold zones across the property, validating Barton Gold’s exploration strategy and enhancing the project’s overall value. Following this, Barton has begun a 2,000-meter drilling program to test the strike potential of the Tolmer alteration zone. This zone has already shown promising results, including intervals such as 4.0 meters at 24.6 grams per tonne, 9.0 meters at 3.92 grams per tonne, and 14 meters at 1.41 grams per tonne.
Alexander Scanlon, managing director of Barton Gold, emphasized the company’s focus on advancing the Tarcoola project towards commercialisation. He mentioned that the fully permitted Central Gawler Mill, which forms part of the project’s 'Stage 1' development, could be key in bringing the Tarcoola gold system into production. Stage 2 would involve expanding into the nearby Tunkillia gold project, which has a significant gold resource, to establish a second mill and increase production capacity.
Alongside the Tarcoola drilling, Barton Gold has also launched a major regional aircore drilling program in early October. This program will target previously untested areas of the Lake Labyrinth Shear Zone (LLSZ), a promising structural feature at Tarcoola. The regional drilling campaign, designed to span approximately 10,000 meters, aims to explore additional gold-bearing zones, which could further enhance the overall resource base at the site.
Additionally, Barton Gold has continued its work at the Perseverance open pit area within Tarcoola. Recent drilling confirmed new gold zones beneath the current pit floor, adding further value to the resource estimate. This ongoing exploration reflects Barton Gold’s commitment to unlocking the full potential of the historic Tarcoola gold project.
Barton Gold is making significant strides in advancing its projects in South Australia, and the results from the recent drilling programs could help expand its resource base, making Tarcoola a key asset in the company’s portfolio.
