WHC, BPT, NHC: Take a look at performance of these energy stocks

Australian market index ASX 200 continued to build on yesterday's gains with a spike of 0.27% today (17 May). Among the industrial sectors, the energy sector was the top gainer, advancing 2.02%. One of the top-performing shares was Beach Energy Limited, up 5.35%.

In this article, we have covered three energy sector gainers from the ASX today - Whitehaven Coal Ltd., Beach Energy Limited and New Hope Corporation Limited. All three shares have seen a price rise of over 4% during today's trade session.

Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC)

Whitehaven Coal Ltd's share price reached a new three-month high today (May 17).

Except for the capital consolidation exercise, things influencing WHC share price appear to be the rise in coal price and the general Australian market momentum. Today, the energy sector has been the top gainer on the ASX200 index, up by over 1.8%. As a result, WHC's share price has also gained over 5% today to close the trade at AU$5.160 a share. Whitehaven Coal Ltd.’s share is also one of the most active and top gaining stocks.

As of date, Whitehaven Coal Limited holds a market capitalisation of AU$4.98 billion. Whitehaven Coal quoted its share price in the 52-week range of AU$1.355 to 5.185.

Beach Energy Limited (ASX:BPT)

Yet another energy stock that gained momentum today was Beach Energy Limited. However, Beach Energy's business focus is on oil and gas exploration. BPT share price has hit its one-month high price today.

Beach Energy Limited's shares have gained over 5% on ASX today to close the trade at AU$1.722 a share. The spike in share price was visible in the lack of any new announcements from the company. While oil prices turned up for the better today, natural gas prices are looking north. Also, overall the energy sector has remained a top gainer today.

Meanwhile, Beach Energy Limited holds a market capitalisation of AU$3.72 billion on ASX.

 

New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX:NHC)

New Hope Corporation Limited is a diversified energy company. NHC shares gained over 4% in today's trade to touch a three-month high price of AU$3.88 a share.

While on ASX, New Hope Corporation hasn't posted any updates since last week, its share price gains of the day look influenced by the energy sector rally. As a result, as of market close on Tuesday, New Hope Corporation Limited has a market capitalisation of AU$3.10 billion.
