Key pointers from ASX closing today
- New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX:NHC) and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) gained the most on the ASX today, moving ahead by 5.47% and 3.36%, respectively.
- Healius Ltd (ASX:HLS) and Liontown Resources Ltd (ASX:LTR) fell 9.64% and 6.50%, respectively.
- Over the last five days, the index has gained 1.31%, but is down 2.85% for the last year to date.
- Six out of 11 sectors closed in red today.

Newsmakers
Critical Resources (ASX:CRR): To fully fund its Canadian drilling intentions in 2023, Critical Resources will be raising CA$6 million through a share placement, the company said in an ASX filing.
Using the "flow-through shares" option allowed by Canadian tax law, the company raised money by placing shares at 8 cents, a 45% premium to Critical Resources' most recent closing price.
Shree Minerals (ASX:SHH): Aircore drilling has started at the Western Australian Dundas project of Shree Minerals, according to an ASX filing
In the southern part of the tenement, about 98 drill holes will search for lithium pegmatites and gold anomalies.
Global markets
Following rare acts of civil disobedience over the weekend, last week's holiday mood vanished amid concerns about China's future. In response to fatalities from an apartment building fire, protesters rushed to the streets to demand an end to Covid lockdowns.
The S&P 500 lost 0.028% to 4,026.12. The Dow Jones was 0.45% up to 34,347.03. The NASDAQ Composite decreased merely by 0.52% to 11,226.36, and the small-cap Russell 2000 climbed by 0.30% to 1,869.19.
In Asia, Nikkei in Japan lost 0.49%, the Asia Dow was 1.12% down while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong fell 2.05% and Shanghai Composite in China decreased by 1.18% at 4.17 PM AEDT.

Australia’s 10-year bond yield stands at 3.53% as of 4.17 PM AEDT.
In commodities markets
Crude Oil WTI was spotted trading at US$73.98/bbl, while brent was at US$81.23/bbl at 4.19 PM AEDT.
Gold was at US$1751.19 an ounce, copper was at US$3.55/Lbs, and iron ore was at US$101.50/T at 4.19 PM AEDT.
