Nordic to commence drilling at the Kopsa Gold-Copper Project after completing acquisition in June 2025.
Nordic Resources (ASX:NNL), a mineral explorer operating across Finland, has recently unveiled standout orogenic gold prospects within the Kiimala Trend Gold Project. This project, situated in central Finland, forms part of the assets Nordic is acquiring from the Swedish-listed gold exploration company, Northgold (STO:NG). The transaction will see Nordic acquiring three key gold projects, including the Kiimala Trend, as well as the Kopsa and Hirsikangas gold projects. Upon completion of the acquisition, expected in early June 2025, Nordic will begin its exploration activities at the Kopsa Gold-Copper Project.
The Kiimala Trend Project, part of a 27 square kilometer land package, includes eight active exploration licences and one exploration licence application, covering key areas within the Nivala, Haapavesi, and Oulainen municipalities. Nordic’s recent exploration review has brought attention to the gold prospects in the Kiimala area, confirming that it holds significant exploration upside, particularly in gold deposits.
Kiimala Project Overview
The Kiimala Trend encompasses a series of gold prospects along a discontinuous 15-kilometer trend, which hosts eight drilled and four undrilled prospects. Nordic’s review shows that all the drilled prospects intersect near-surface gold, with some of these already hosting historical non-compliant resources. These include the Angesneva and Vesipera prospects, which were previously studied by Belvedere Resources and GTK, respectively.
Results from the drilling program have indicated notable intersections of gold at various depths. At the Angesneva prospect, gold intersections were observed over extended drill lengths, with additional copper present in the results. Similarly, the Vesipera prospect also demonstrated strong gold intersections at different depths. These results, while not yet compliant with current resource standards, provide a solid foundation for further validation and exploration.
Exploration Plans and Future Activities
Nordic Resources is keen to proceed with further exploration at Kiimala, with a focus on verifying and expanding on the historical data. The company’s validation work is ongoing, aiming to bring these prospects into a more formal resource classification. The Kiimala Trend is seen as a project with high exploration potential, aligning with Nordic’s broader focus on advancing its portfolio of gold assets.
Meanwhile, the company’s efforts will also continue at the nearby Kopsa Gold-Copper Project, which is expected to be the primary focus of Nordic’s initial drilling program. Nordic has expressed its intention to start drilling at Kopsa immediately upon completion of the acquisition process in June 2025.
Nordic’s acquisition of these projects marks an important milestone for the company as it looks to develop its exploration strategy further. In the meantime, Nordic remains committed to its broader mission of advancing its gold projects and expanding its footprint within the Finnish mining sector.
