Malaysia is likely to recover the bauxite mining over the coming months ahead as the government would start granting licences.

  • The government previously banned bauxite mining over unregulated mining and water contamination.
  • After the ban was lifted in the early months of the year 2019, the local bauxite miners were asked to undertake an environmental assessment over their respective sites before receiving the licences to recommence the operations
  • The monthly bauxite exports would be capped at 600,000mt under the standard operating procedures.
