Twilio (NYSE:TWLO), a leader in cloud communications, has announced a strategic partnership with Singtel to offer Rich Communications Services (RCS) Business Messaging to businesses in Singapore. This collaboration marks Twilio’s first RCS offering in the Asian market and provides companies with a more secure and branded messaging solution to engage with their customers. By leveraging RCS, businesses can send rich, interactive messages directly to mobile inboxes, providing a more engaging and trusted communication experience.

According to Twilio's 2024 Consumer Preferences report, 79% of Singapore consumers trust brand communications more when they feature verification badges, while 68% find branded text messages more trustworthy. This partnership addresses those consumer preferences by enabling secure, verified, and branded communication through RCS, which offers enhanced multimedia features such as images, carousels, and quick reply buttons.

Key features of the partnership include automatic upgrades from SMS to RCS on supported devices, cost-effective pricing for messages up to 160 UTF-8 characters, and immediate testing capabilities via Twilio Console. Notably, businesses will not require any changes to their code to implement RCS, making the integration seamless. Additionally, enhanced metrics with read receipt tracking will provide businesses with insights into the effectiveness of their messaging campaigns.

The launch of RCS Business Messaging in Singapore signifies Twilio’s continued global expansion into new regions. While the offering provides numerous advantages, including zero implementation costs and no additional cost for RCS versus SMS for messages up to 160 characters, it is important to note that RCS is only available on supported devices, and there is a character limit of 160 UTF-8 characters for standard pricing.
