- iRhythm Technologies  (NASDAQ:IRTC) has unveiled promising results from the latest research on its Zio LTCM monitor, highlighting significant improvements in device performance.

- The Zio LTCM monitor, featuring a new design with a waterproof casing and breathable adhesive, shows enhanced wear time and reduced skin irritation compared to its predecessor.

- The study, presented at HRX 2024, revealed increased patient compliance and higher arrhythmia detection rates, with over a million devices already in use since its September 2023 launch.

iRhythm Technologies recently shared encouraging data from initial research on the Zio monitor, a next-generation ECG device designed for long-term continuous monitoring. These findings were presented at the Heart Rhythm Society's HRX 2024 meeting.

The study demonstrated that design improvements in the Zio LTCM monitor, including a waterproof casing and a breathable adhesive, have led to enhanced device performance. These enhancements contribute to longer wear time, better analyzable time, and increased patient compliance, potentially leading to higher arrhythmia detection rates.

The study, titled "Performance of a Novel Next-Generation Ambulatory ECG Long-Term Patch Monitor: A Multicenter Post-Market Evaluation," aimed to evaluate whether these design improvements resulted in superior real-world performance compared to the previous Zio XT model.

Researchers compared real-world data from patients using both the new Zio LTCM monitor and the earlier Zio XT service. The analysis covered 7,433 Zio monitors and 1,336,391 Zio XT devices from May 2022 to September 2023. Results showed that the Zio LTCM service had fewer early wear terminations, with only 1.1% of devices worn for less than 48 hours compared to 2.8% for the Zio XT. Additionally, the Zio LTCM service demonstrated a longer average wear duration, increased analyzable time, and fewer reports of skin irritation—0.47% versus 1.35% for the Zio XT.

The new Zio LTCM monitor has been adopted widely, with over a million devices in use since its introduction in the United States in September 2023, accounting for nearly 70% of iRhythm's LTCM registrations in the country.
