It’s been quite a while since the rumors of Global e-commerce giant Amazon launching its own cryptocurrency have been doing rounds on the social media. The rumors started when Amazon posted an advertisement declaring that they are in the process of hiring “Head of Digital Currency and Blockchain”. Since then, the Twitter world has been abuzz speculating when will Amazon launch its own crypto token.

In fact, many outlets had suggested Amazon has started its crypto token’s presale. Many websites claimed that Amazon has indeed launched one token and early birds can take advantage of it by investing in it. The Amazon crypto is expected to be like any other crypto, wherein the users can use it for transactional purposes.

Amazon crypto in hot trends

Although the news of the launch of crypto token is still uncertain, Amazon crypto was in hot trends on 4 January following a petition from Change.org which urged the e-commerce giants to start accepting payments in Shiba Inu.

Shiba Inu is being used as a mode of payment by leading brands such as AMC theatres, Travala, so its followers have been asking other platforms such as Amazon to be accept Shiba Inu as a mode of payment in retail outlets, joints. Change.org is the same place, wherein it had raised an online petition to list Shiba on Rohinhood exchange, which garnered 550,000 signatures.

Is the launch on the cards?

As there is little or no information available on the same, it would be difficult to ascertain the launch date of the much-anticipated crypto. Many experts believe that it could definitely see the light in 2022.

From the very little information that is available, it is expected the Amazon token would be a token which would allow users to buy goods on Amazon website. The blockchain which the e-commerce giant will use for the transactions will be called ‘Amazon Managed Blockchain’.

Although Amazon does have a coin of its own, but unlike blockchain-based cryptos, the Amazon Coin has no distributed ledger underpinning as of now. Launched in 2013, the coin is primarily used in the Amazon App store to purchase games and apps.

With the launch details still unknown and unclear, it would be advisable for the investors to cross check on company websites before falling for such scams as the year 2021 witnessed several cases of phishing.
