US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 47.97 points or 1.10 per cent higher at 4,402.15, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index surged by 410.52 points or 1.21 per cent higher at 34,330.36, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 14,894.00, up by 147.60 points or 1.00 per cent against the previous day close (at the time of writing – 11:45 AM ET).
US Market News: The major indices of Wall Street traded in a green zone as investors cherished the positive announcement from the US Federal Reserve meeting today as the current target interest rate was held steady in a range of 0% to 2.5%. As per the statement, the bond tapering will start “soon” with the expectations of rate hike may happen in 2022.
Among the gaining stocks, Stitch Fix (SFIX) shares surged by around 15.45% after the Company had posted a surprise profit for the fourth quarter. General Mills (GIS) shares rose by around 3.92% after the Company reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings. Among the declining stocks, FedEx (FDX) shares dropped by around 8.44% after the Company’s quarterly earnings missed the analysts’ expectations. Hyatt Hotels Corp (H) shares went down by around 0.49% after the Company announced a public offering of 7 million Class A common shares.
UK Market News: The London markets traded in a green zone boosted by the mining stocks.
888 Holdings shares climbed by about 7.59%, boosted by the news that the sports betting firm DraftKings made a lucrative offer to Entain.
FTSE 250 listed PZ Cussons shares dropped by around 3.38% after the Company reported a drop in first-quarter sales against the tough comparator of the prior-year period when the sales of hygiene products peaked due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Flutter Entertainment stated that the legal dispute with the Commonwealth of Kentucky had now been settled in full. Meanwhile, the shares grew by around 3.38%.
Covid-19 vaccine provider Oxford BioMedica shares surged by around 10.56% after the Company showed robust growth of approximately 139% in the first-half revenue and swung into profitability.
